Die KI-Verordnung (KI-VO) ist ein Prestigeprojekt der EU. Es ist zu erwarten, dass das groß angelegte Regulierungsvorhaben die Verbreitung und den Einsatz von künstlicher Intelligenz (KI) in der Union und über ihre Grenzen hinaus erheblich beeinflussen wird.

In diesem Workshop wollen wir die Inhalte der KI-Verordnung, die Bezüge zum Urheber- und Datenschutzrecht, die Bezüge zu OpenData und insbesondere für (öffentliche) Hochschulen relevante Bezüge herausarbeiten.

Die Teilnehmenden sind eingeladen, vorab ggf. eigene Fragen/Fälle vorzubereiten und bei Interesse im Workshop vorzutragen.

The impact of artificial intelligence on society is so profound that it can be considered to be disruptive. AI does not only have radical consequences for society - as is expressed by the concept of ‘the Fourth Revolution’ and ‘Society 5.0’ that is emerging from that - but also for ethics itself. Technologies have become ethically disruptive, in the sense that they challenge and affect the very concepts with which we can do ethics in the first place. What do’ agency’, ‘responsibility’ and ‘empathy’ mean when artificial agents are entering society? What does ‘democratic representation’ mean when AI systems interfere with the very idea of representation itself? What can the notion of ‘the humane’ still mean when AI systems become an intrinsic part of human actions and decision-making? This talk will explore phenomenon of ethical disruption in detail, by investigating the various ways in which technologies – and not only human beings – can be ethically significant. Breaking the human monopoly on ethics and expanding it towards technology will make it possible to connect ethics more directly to practices of design. The resulting ‘Guidance Ethics Approach’ enables bottom-up ethical reflection that can foster the responsible design, implementation and use of new and emerging technologies.

Peter-Paul Verbeek (1970) is Rector Magnificus and professor of Philosophy and Ethics of Science and Technology at the University of Amsterdam. His research and teaching focus on the relationship between humans and technology, viewed from an ethical perspective and in close relation to design. He is chair of the UNESCO World Commission for the Ethics of Science and Technology (COMEST), editor-in-chief of the Journal of Human-Technology Relations, and editor of the Lexington book series in Postphenomenology and the Philosophy of Technology. Künstliche Intelligenz ist längst in den Hochschulen angekommen – doch wie können wir sie gezielt für unsere Aufgaben nutzbar machen? In dieser kompakten 30-minütigen Online-Schulung lernen Sie, wie Sie mit ChatGPT ganz einfach einen eigenen KI-Assistenten (GPT) erstellen – ohne Programmierkenntnisse und direkt einsetzbar für Ihren Arbeitsbereich.

Ob Lehrmaterialien generieren, Formulare automatisieren, Erklärvideos vorbereiten, Anfragen beantworten, Recherche unterstützen oder komplexe Workflows vereinfachen – GPTs lassen sich mit wenigen Klicks individuell konfigurieren.

Do robots need creativity in problem solving? Physical AI is a type of AI that enables robots to perceive and interact with a physical world. Early physical AI models follow the sense-plan-act framework where robots make decisions dominantly based on sensed information. While sensing is crucial for understanding the current physical environments, this paradigm of physical AI is fundamentally limited to support general tasks where humans solve problems creatively based on not only what they can observe now but also various predictions of the unseen spatiotemporal and social contexts, that is, seeing around corners. In this talk, I will illustrate why robots without creativity can fail to fulfill even simple goals and how we develop creative physical AI. 

If equipped with creative physical AI, can such robots promote human creativity as in creating arts? Generative AI has brought us numerous types of convenience in the digital art world. To create artifacts in the real world, creative physical AI is needed, for instance, to preserve traditional craftsmanship such as wood carving or claymation, which faces declining participation due to its labor-intensive nature. More broadly, our innovations in creative physical AI aim to encourage people to participate in more creative activities such as educational and therapeutic art sessions. I would like to invite the audience to think about how we can use technologies to promote human creativity for the next generation.

In Adobe Premiere Pro gibt es mittlerweile verschiedene KI-Tools, die die Postproduktion unterstützen und erleichtern sollen. In 30 Minuten geben wir einen Überblick über den aktuellen Stand der Möglichkeiten, die es bereits gibt und die vielleicht bald hinzukommen.

Wir werfen einen Blick darauf, wie die KI-Tools funktionieren und wie sie in den eigenen Workflow integriert werden können.

Mit dem schlagartigen Aufkommen von KI-Generatoren für unterschiedlichste Medienformen seit Ende 2022 stehen Hochschulen hinsichtlich ihrer Lehre und ihrer digitalen Prüfungsumsetzung enormen Möglichkeiten aber auch Herausforderungen gegenüber. Neben Fragen des Urheberrechts und des Datenschutzes ist insbesondere der Bereich des Prüfungsrechts von diesen Entwicklungen betroffen und es bedarf geeigneter Maßnahmen für einen konstruktiven Umgang mit dieser technologischen Revolution.

Dabei stellt sich vor allem auch die Frage: Können per KI-Generator erstellte Texte und Medieninhalte überhaupt als künstlich generierte Inhalte erkannt und detektiert werden? Und wenn ja, wie verlässlich sind die Ergebnisse von KI-Detektoren und wie lassen sich diese im Prüfungsrecht berücksichtigen? Auch ergibt sich bei solch rasanten Technologieentwicklungen immer die Notwendigkeit einer staatlichen Regulierung, wie sie im Zuge des EU AI-Act beabsichtigt wird. Welche Implikationen bringt diese Regulierung allgemein und speziell für den Hochschulbereich mit sich?

Diesen und weiteren Fragen wollen wir uns im Rahmen dieses Workshops annähern und anschließend gemeinsam mit allen Teilnehmenden vertiefend darüber diskutieren.

Data science (DS) and artificial intelligence (AI) have become central to modern Economics as the discipline has shifted from theory to data and computation. Today, economists work with massive, complex datasets and study increasingly nonlinear, strategic, and dynamic systems —- areas in which Data Science, AI and Machine Learning (ML) provide powerful tools for efficiently processing high-dimensional, unstructured, and large-scale data. Data Science and AI methods improve causal inference, prediction, and forecasting. They also inspire new approaches to modeling dynamic optimization and strategic behavior.

Conversely, Economics contributes foundational ideas that shape how AI systems are designed, evaluated, and deployed. Indeed, some of the most significant concepts in contemporary AI originate from economic theory, which provides the basis for decision-making (statistical decision theory), strategic reasoning (game theory), incentive design (mechanism design), causal inference (trustworthy AI), welfare analysis (AI ethics), and behavioral modeling (human-centered AI).

As we had a very positive echo of the Summer School 2023 “Data Science for Explainable and Trustworthy AI”, another one will be organised in 2024 on the topic of “Generative AI”.

The rise of Generative AI, especially with the advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs), marks a transformative era in artificial intelligence that is expanding across all disciplines. LLMs aim to bridge the communication gap between machines and humans, paving the way for models that can grasp the nuances of human language and generate outputs in various formats that mimic human cognition and creativity.
The critical moment for Generative AI came with the adoption of neural networks, particularly transformer-based architectures, which have become its backbone. These models stand out for their profound ability to digest and learn from extensive corpora and datasets, and also to generate original, contextually rich content. But we are just at the beginning. The emerging models present challenges related to ethics, reliability, the way we experiment with these models, the scope of their inferences, their applications to more specific domains, etc. All this has created a vibrant field of work and opens the doors to a community that we hope will find the right forum in this Summer School.
