DASHH is an interdisciplinary graduate school that offers challenging PhD topics at the interface of the natural sciences, applied mathematics, and computer science. Here, highly talented graduates can do innovative data science research, acquiring and deepening unique insights. In DASHH, we harness data, computer science, and applied mathematics to advance and broaden our understanding of nature. We aim to educate the future generation of data and information scientists that will tackle tomorrow’s scientific challenges that come along with large-scale experiments. Hamburg is a lighthouse of excellent research universities and institutions in fields such as high-energy particle physics, material science, structural biology, photo- and nanoscience. It offers the brightest photon sources (PETRA III, FLASH, EuXFEL) to unravel the structure of matter. The increasing level of automation and the growing number and resolution of sensors in large-scale scientific experiments result in large, heterogeneous, and highly complex data collections. Therefore, Data Science is a key technology in modern natural sciences. In this context, DASHH projects cover computational challenges in chemistry, structural biology, particle physics, engineering, materials science, accelerator science, and ultrafast x-ray science.
