Promoting participatory and responsible approaches to AI adoption in healthcare

online

AI holds great potential to transform healthcare, and the Catalan Administration is committed to using it as a support tool for both clinical care and health management. A responsible and sustainable approach is essential, one that draws on a deep understanding of healthcare problems and on proven practices within the sector. The Secretary for Digital Policies of the Catalan Government, Maria Galindo, will introduce this perspective, and Albert Sabater Coll, Serra Húnter Associate Professor at the University of Girona and Director of the Observatory for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence of Catalonia (OEIAC) will expand on its ethical foundations. The case of ABCDx, a company developing rapid, mobile neuro-vascular diagnosis solutions, will be presented by Juan Gonzalez Fraile (ABCDx & PickleTech), serving as an example of how innovation can align with these principles. Ultimately, we advocate for a care-centered view of AI in healthcare,  grounded in ethical principles that go beyond efficiency or operational performance to ensure trust and impact.

Session Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Expand knowledge and awareness of AI in healthcare in the long term: The webinar aims to share insights on responsible and ethical AI adoption in healthcare, highlighting its potential to improve patient care-experience while ensuring long-term sustainability for the sector.
  • Promote participatory and responsible approaches: It seeks to encourage engagement of diverse stakeholders in AI system design and governance, fostering trust, societal relevance, and ethical alignment with the catalan example.
  • Showcase practical examples and frameworks: The webinar will present real-world cases, such as ABCDx, and tools like the PIO model, demonstrating how organizations can evaluate and implement AI responsibly.
  • Identify the key technical and ethical challenges, as well as associated practical responses, when developing AI solutions for medical and in-vitro devices, in alignment with AI act and responsible AI aspects.
  • Foster dialogue and collaboration for sustainable AI impact: It aims to build a community internationally around human-centered AI, supporting alignment with emerging regulations and generating both social and technological value.
